oh man oh man i do love pie. i love pecan pies and i especially love ala mode of any kind pies but most of all i LOVE pies with slices of pears baked onto their tops! i can't believe ms. happy family beat me to the punch but i agree the very best part of thanksgiving is the guaranteed plethora of pies. also, made from scratch noodles.
Favorite is a perfectly roasted Turkey: moist on the inside with perfectly brown crispiness on the outside. It's my favorite thing to cook too. The love, the care, the tender basting--the anticipation during that first cut. yu-um. Also there are so many fun condiments to pair with it. Ginger cranberry chutney, fig apple stuffing and smoked chili gravy. Uh hello. Where are my stretchy pants? I'm ready for this. Let's eat.
The sandwiches made from the leftovers are my favorite part. Oh, and having coffee with my pie… the pie that I took home to enjoy long after the festivities, which are too "familial" for my liking.
i can't pick a favorite. cause it's allllllllllllllllllllll so good. sorry.
but maybe, if i had to pick one favorite dessert it would be some pumpkin bundt cakes. and maybe after i have thanksgiving with miss dang girl of the month, it will be a toss up between pumpkin bundt cake and a pear pie or tart of some sorts. it's hard to say.
Pumpkin pie, or squash pie as one very old family recipe book calls it. But it has to be my Grandmother C.'s recipe because otherwise it is just a waste of calories. And if you must top it with whipped cream, and trust me you really don't need it, you have to use made from scratch whipped cream that is only lightly sweetened. Yes I am picky like that.
